High Performance Computing with General Purpose GPUs and Recent Trends
Adnan Özsoy
Department of Computer Engineering, Hacettepe University, Turkey
Özet : In recent years, there has been an explosive growth in the use of graphic processing units (GPUs) for general‐purpose computing, motivating the design of general‐purpose GPU (GPGPU) hardware, which the creators have envisioned for applications unrelated to graphics processing. The GPGPUs provide massive parallel computing environments, with hundreds of cores and high memory bandwidth in a low cost, energy‐efficient platform. In this seminar, a history of the GPGPU evolution will be given along with the general capabilities of the hardware. Past work on data compression and sequence alignment in bio‐informatics are the two case studies of the seminar. Finally, recent trends in the GPGPU research will be addressed.
