Finite geometry has strong connections with algebraic coding theory, graph theory, finite group theory, algebraic geometry over finite fields, design theory, finite fields, algebraic combinatorics, and more. Computational techniques are becoming more instrumental in finding and proving new theorems. These computational techniques rely on computer algebra, mostly related to the theory of finite fields. Techniques from computational group theory and the theory of matrix groups over finite fields are now readily available. The goal of the school is to show the interplay between theory and practical computations from various angles, and to introduce young researchers to the tools that are needed for this kind of research. The school will take a problem-based approach, and examples of this interplay of theory and experiment will be given. Opportunities will be provided for young researchers to discuss and share their problems, and to explore new ways in which computations may be helpful for their work. The summer school is part of SCALE. It will include five lecture sequences:

“Geometries over finite fields” by Jan de Beule
“Polynomials over finite fields and applications” by Bence Csajbok
“Algebraic geometry codes” by Maria Montanucci
“Matrix techniques in finite geometry” by Morgan Rodgers

There will also be slots for short contributed talks.
