Progress in Ultrafast Optics stimulated by invention of Chirped Pulse Amplification Technique.

Özet : Progress in lasers, which can generate ultrashort optical pulses opened a new area with numerous applications in modern physics, chemistry, biology, and micro- nano-engineering. High electric field of femtosecond laser pulse and accompanying strong nonlinear effects provide precise control of laser-material modification through removal and refraction index change. From the other hand, ultrashort optical pulse by itself became inevitable tool for time-resolved investigations of laser-material interaction. All these achievements became possible after the invention of Chirped Pulse Amplification (CPA) technique, which allowed the scaling of the pulse energy up to several orders of magnitude in comparison with the previous results. In my talk I will discuss the history of high peak intensity lasers development, the main physical principles behind of CPA technique, and several central applications of ultrashort lasers.
